Our Work with Schools

In April 2014, 3 geography professors from Robert College came to visit Belentepe Farm. They do gardening work together for a week, and the teachers want gardening work to be done in their schools. However, a foundation must be prepared first.

A seminar was held at Robert College in December 2014. The teachers invite Belentepe Farm founder Taner Aksel (he is also a RC 1987 graduate) as a speaker. Additionally, other Istanbul schools are also invited.

Taner Aksel tells about what is done on the farm, permaculture and sustainable living.

Students and teachers want to do gardening studies in schools. Permaculture clubs are established in schools and an introduction to sustainable living course is organized, where gardening activities are also explained.

Teachers and students who take the course begin to establish their own school gardens.

Schools open a Facebook page to share their gardening activities. (You can access their Facebook page by clicking on the image on the side.)

Some students who want to replicate similar studies locally negotiate with municipalities to establish gardens in municipal parks outside their schools. First, Robert College met with Beşiktaş Municipality and a garden was established in a small area in the municipality's Ulus Park.

St. Joseph High School permaculture club also met with Kadıköy Municipality and it was decided to establish a community garden in Fenerbahçe park and the garden was established together. It has been working very successfully since its establishment. You will find detailed information about this garden design in the link below.

We continue to carry out further enriching studies with other schools and young people who believe in the importance of such studies.

We also observe important changes in the lives of the young people who take part in these studies. Realizing the importance of sustainable living, some young people decide to specialize in these subjects in their future education. They also participate in the establishment of gardens at universities. They encourage the transformation of their families.

If you, as a school, would like to take part in similar studies, let us know:

Teşekkürler! Mesaj gönderildi.
